I think it's actually "phase".
Try running a phaser overvocals, and it'll sound similar

You can tell it's "phase test" because the audio is gradually shifted out of phase to make it sound like it's becoming wider and wider and moving towards you. Works well on a hifi setup but fucking useless in clubs (it'll be lost when the audio's summed to mono anyway).
