Logic Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I know there are at least 2 mixes of this tune, and I'm not sure if either were released. Both were '96 jump up and sampled the shit out of The Champ break and synths. Clip available Quote
haste Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 yeah i have this tune on vinyl...was on an album i'll dig it out Quote
Logic Posted May 8, 2004 Author Report Posted May 8, 2004 You'll have to do a clip of it because I'm pretty sure there was more than one mix. 8) Quote
Guest Guest Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 One was released on Breakbeat Science vol 2, called Bass of the Tramp or something like that, had the champ organs in it. Quote
Guest Guest Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 one had the champ organs in it, and hiphop vocal samples like "check out the dope cut". the other had the vocal "badass motherfuker on 2 turntables" in it and a regular 2 step. were both mixes released? Quote
mulder Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 "Badass motherfuker on 2 turntables" became "BM Funksta" on the second Aphrodite album. I didn't know Bass of the Tramp was released! Quote
WeaveMcQuilt Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 http://www.urbantakeover.co.uk/lpost/post.html Scroll down to specials/unreleased...M.Finn/Aphro - The Champ. I guess that confirms it was unreleased? BM Funksta is a remix of "True Blue", different bassline. Quote
mulder Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 BM Funksta is a remix of "True Blue", different bassline. When I made my previous comment, I hadn't heard BM Funksta in a while and for some reason thought it had bits of the Champ / Bass of the Tramp dubs I remember (my memory is seriously letting me down here!). Listening to it now, I'm not sure what it was a remix of, but it's certainly not 'True Blue' (I take it you mean the Jungle Brothers tune?) It is however, a reworking of one or more dubplates that Aphro was playing in about 1998 when I was gigging with him a little bit and heard those plates loads. The 900 Number breakdown section certainly rings lots of bells and it's got some connection with the Champ / Tramp plate I feel. I may have a tape somewhere with one of these plates on, I'll get digging.... Quote
mulder Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Right, BM Funksta is just a reworking of 'Mother Fucker' dubplate, which doesn't have any Champ samples in it at all, but does have the 'Money' sample and the '900 Number' bit. There may have been a Tramp / Champ plate with the mother fucker vocal, I don't remember hearing it though. What could've happened is that there were 2 versions of 'Bass of the Tramp', one earlier than the other, the later one being released on Breakbeat Science 2. Quote
