DJ Trace - Inside Information ('Jungle Fever Special' + Original) [CLIP]

There's actually a couple of versions of this tune that remain unreleased.

 

The first is the 'Jungle Fever Special' mix of this tune. Done specially for the Kool FM Jungle Fever rave-nights, it features a vocal line from MC Five-0 saying "...jungle fever special..." over and over. There's a few differences with this mix which I can't quite remember just now. Its actually quite good. I do have a clip of this come to think so I'll have to get it out at some stage.

 

As well, my first encounter with this tune was some time during 1993 when this guy was playing a tape at 6th Form. He had recorded it from the radio (Kool FM) and it was basically (unbeknowest to me then) the original mix of "Inside Information". It was quite a bit plainer than either the 'Jungle Fever Special' or the released mix, but I was pretty into it. It basically had the drum pattern going:

boom-boom bap, boom-

psssht!

all the way thru, none of the:

bap, ba-boo-boo-bap

psssht psssht psssht!

bap, ba-boo-boo-bap

psssht, psssht

heard in the released mix. Oh and the dark melody in it was simpler too. This must have been around September 1993 because we had just come back from summer break. I'm pretty certain also it was between the first Jungle Fever and the second event - cause thats where the 'Jungle Fever Special' mix first emerged, I believe.

 

I actually prefered this 'original mix' at the time, simplier, yes, but a bit more singular in purpose. I wasn't keen on all the embellishments of the finalised mix at all! However after I'd heard it out & about raving a couple of times, I think I was pretty much certain that actually I did prefer the 'finalised' mix after all, and promptly bought the record on its release May-ish 1994.

I didn't realise that Inside Information was made that early - I don't remember any DJ playing it until December 1993. I always thought the Jungle Fever mix was done for the 22/1/94 event.

 

I'm assuming the 'original mix' you mention is the same as the mix JJ Frost, Fabio etc played around Dec 93/Jan 94. I'll get a clip done.

Trace plays it on a Jan 94 Kool FM mix that was posted on B2VOS last year. I don't have that mix on my laptop to do a clip but I'm sure there will be other users on here that downloaded it. eXtreme?

That's my original recording - a wicked Trace set and featuring Atmospheric Jubilancy too, sigh! The Jungle Fever special version is just the don! Funny 'coz Rymetime says on the tape 'soon to be on Intalektive', but of course it appeared eventually on that Lucky Spin/BM picture disc.

I think the one you posted Extreme must be another, interim, version. I gotta feeling that this is possibly as similar as you can get to the to the ORIGINAL mix that I was mentioning. (although when I first heard it, there were no "...Trace, before you touch down..." and "...jungle fever special..." vocals in it.

Yeah, if only it did come out on Intalektive! Picture disk sound quality is *soooo* poor! (Has anyone else ever noticed that? - they have this kind of 'coasting' noise all the way through them)

yeah, its like see through plastic pressed onto a piece of paper stuck onto a black twelve or something. I bet there a bastard to press as I've heard that ten inches are a sod to press as they have to be done manually as the twelves can be done on the autopress in a plant and thats why most tens are off center maybe.

Ahh I messed up the capstan roller late mid last year by cleaning too vigourously with white spirit. now the alignments all f***ed - sound phases in & out. I was playing with idea of getting myself a Nakamichi but I think Ill just send my Technics RS-BX501 for a full service (demagnitise, replace rollers, whatever else). Must get on it, I've gotta finish off my tapes!

I've just done a quick interim rip of the alternate 'Jungle Fever Special' mix. As you will see it's quite hissy

(no fear - with a properly aligned tape deck the results are far superior!)

 

As you will see this 'Jungle Fever Special' mix is more similar to the final mix than the other mix posted. However there are a number of other elements that make this version just as noteworthy!

Yes, the original mix -

I'm quite glad this other 'JFS' mix turned up becase I feared no clip of the original mix I described would come available. If you listen to the other 'JFS' mix posted you will see the melody is quite different to the final released mix. I knew I prefered the melody of the original - which sounds less dark; than sounding more eerie! So, good all round.
