Bhima Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 A friend sent me a tune to ID which i've uploaded here: http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/447846/DARKMAN.MP3 At first, I recognised it as it is on an old tape somewhere but, I don't know it and now I want to know what it is too after having the clip on repeat so much. The filename is "DARKMAN" and I naturally searched on the database to find this guy: http://www.rolldabeats.com/artist/darkman There's a tune there at the bottom:RINSE002 ......... Darkman ......... This Sounds Ruff (Crazy Life?) ......... 1996 The tune has a vocal in it "Crazy Life" so i'm thinking it could be that BUT there's also another tune called "Dis sound ruff" on this LP: http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/awol/awollp1 So, if I have got it correct, which version is it? Or are they both the same tune? Been searching for both releases for ages on ebay trying to find audio clips but they both seem to be extremely rare. Quote
Mantis2K Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Nice clip; never heard the intro before! This sounds like the unreleased remix of D-Power - "Beef"; a sample comes later in the track "Yo, yo, yo, yo, whose got the beef, nigga?" However, we could have been completely wrong all along, and it might just be that "This Sounds Ruff" track... Quote
Bhima Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 This sounds like the unreleased remix of D-Power - "Beef"; Audio clip for that???! I know it's definately released as the guy who sent it recorded it from a vinyl he had and sold. He couldnt remember what it was though and wanted to seek it out again as he regretted selling. Quote

He couldnt remember what it was though and wanted to seek it out again as he regretted selling. It seems most likely then that it's indeed that "rough" track, but not the album version, which is supposedly different... Here's the clip I had--lower quality than yours, but you can hear the nigga sample...Download clip... Quote

Nah man, sounds like the same tune and that other sample you're talking about seems like another track getting mixed in. It's obvious with the way the track fades in and out unprofessionally. Definately the same tune. Quote
haste Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Definitely not the Darkman track...just checked it against both sides of the 12" Quote
Bhima Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 Definitely not the Darkman track...just checked it against both sides of the 12"Which 12"? This? http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rinse_out/rinse002 Im convinced it was as it is listed there with "Crazy life" in brackets which is in the clip. Dunno. I'll keep searching. Quote
haste Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Yeah, that's the 12". Definitely not either of the tracks on there! Quote
maxstile Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 man i used to love this tune, and it still sounds wicked. never owned the vinyl just had it on an old tape. its annoying me too coz im sure i found out the name a while ago, but its escaped me. darkman - crazy life did sound very probable though, but haste says it isnt that. i will try to find out the name also and if i find out i'll update the thread. Bhima Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 Haste; a friend just recorded thier copy of RINSE002 and scanned in a photo of it too (feel free to use this in the database): http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/1822/rinseout2promoa3ah.jpg It IS the track i'm after. Are you sure you've been listening to the right vinyl?! Quote
haste Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Can you do a clip of the track? I have a copy with full artwork which I listened through and didn't sound like the one you've got the mp3 for. That says Rinse Records. Mine is Rinse Out 002? I don't remember Rinse Out being distributed by Jumpstart, didn't it go through the same distro as Flex? How many tracks are on the vinyl in the picture? Maybe I'm just going crazy!! haha Quote

Maybe I'm just going crazy!! haha  Man, this gets more confusing by the minute. I'll send you the track he sent me when I get home. AIM conversation with my mate. Me: Know this mate? http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/447846/DARKMAN.MP3 Him: it's this - on the flip of "Dis Sound Ruff" - http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3085/rinseout1a3nb.jpg Him: i've got doubles if you're interested --- one is a promo Me: That image is of Rinse 001: http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rinse_out/rinse001Do you mean this? http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rinse_out/rinse002I thought that myself but I have had someone else tell me that it is definately NOT that.Have you got the vinyl? Him: yeah, i'll do you a clip...gimme 5 mins Him: they are the exact same records (sitting 2 feet away from me) - that tune is called "It's Driving Me" and "It's Crazy" here's clips of all three tunes - taken from the exact vinyls that are pictured above <Sends clip> Him: i think it's one of those cases where it's on two releases under two names - - - i promise you that the tune you linked is what you see in the label scan above... i also promise you that "Dis Sound Ruff" is on this release, even though it isn't listed on the label. RDB could be wrong, too - would be an easy mistake to make since "Dis Sound Ruff" isn't listed. the tune you're looking for is also called 2 different things - check out this promo pic - http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/1822/rinseout2promoa3ah.jpg Him: wait a second... i just noticed that RinseOut 1 and 2 are the same! look at the pics - top is 1 and bottom is 2... 2 is just the promo copy apparently... same thing with Metamorphosis 002 and 009 - same record, just one is a promo and one is a full labeled release http://www.rolldabeats.com/label/metamorphosis Me: Maybe i've missed something but, are you saying That promo of Rinse002 + Rinse001 are the same? Him: yep Me: So on rinse001 - that "I changed the world tune" - that doesn't exist? Him: it seems so... Me: So what's this then? The radio DJ announces it as "rinse recordings - I cant wait" http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/4478...gedTheWorld.mp3 Him: haha - as simply as possible... that tune is on both records - - - rinse out 1 and 2 contain the same 3 tracks - with slightly different names on each. "I Changed the World" is on both of them. Me: ok, cool. that's confusing but i'll do more research... Don't know about you but, i'm baffled as to what's going on. Quote
haste Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Hang on...the one I have has "It's driving me out of my mind" sample in it. Maybe I actually have RINSE001 mislabelled? I'm too confused to work this out now...haha. I'll check the vinyl again from home...maybe my ears are deceiving me Quote
haste Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I think I know what's happened here, but this is weird. I have a 12" labelled to look like RINSE002 but it is, in fact, RINSE001 - 2 tracks that have the samples that fit the tune names What your mate appears to have is RINSE002 labelled up as RINSE001. So he's saying that is it the Dis Sound Ruff track that's on the AWOL LP that's on the RINSE002 release that we have listed? Can you ask him to find out exactly what's etched on his copy? The etched cat no on my 12" is RINSE002 A1 2 (the first 2 is crossed out and has also been changed into a 4 while the second 2 is obviously handwritten in at a later date) :dazed: :dazed: :dazed: :dazed: :dazed: Quote
sven Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 The tune has a vocal in it "Crazy Life" so i'm thinking it could be that BUT there's also another tune called "Dis sound ruff" on this LP: http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/awol/awollp1 I have the CD release of AWOL live: the track in the clip is NOT "Dis sound ruff". But the tracks are somewhat similar, especially the drums. The AWOL one has a sample "dis sound ruff" and no "crazy life" in it. Hope this helps. Quote
maxstile Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Is anyone elses head spinnin? lol Can anyone confirm for sure whether the Track on the AWOL CD with the 'Dis sound Ruff' sample is the same track as on RINSE 002? I still dont understand if they are or not. I know they are spelt differently but are they the same track or not? Quote
Bhima Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 Jesus! This is a mad one! I'll reply properly tomorrow but, just to throw a spanner in the works, I have that "I changed the world" track on another tape and it's announced as "Rinse recordings - 'I can't wait'..." wtf...? Quote
