Bhima Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Tune played by Bukem @ Amnesia in May 1994 Has a nice intro with some sort of arpeggiated bell pattern and a pad in the back ground... Then it all cuts out with just a raw Soul pride break and some nice bass tones... Theres loads of crashes and hi hiat samples going on in the background too... Then a sinister male vocal comes in: "If you keep an open mind, you'll discover dark secrets". After more drum/bass rollout another bit comes in with a combination of a more minimal bell pattern and a "Magic in you.... Magic, Magic" female vocal... I would do a clip but I can't find the set anywhere... If anyone else has the same MP3, it's around the 30 minute mark I think. Quote

Bhima Posted May 25, 2006 Author Report Posted May 25, 2006 Aha! Seems about right... However, just seen someone selling it on ebay here and the clips are not of the tune...http://cgi.ebay.com/WILD-ORKID-THE-MAGIC-I...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote

eXtreme Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 "If you keep an open mind, you'll discover dark secrets". that was the sample i wasnt sure about, im sure there was another thread about this tune, but a quick search didnt find it. (may have been at b2vos come to think of it). JJ may know something about this, i think it was his reply to the previous thread. Quote

Before anyone says it - this is NOT Oaysis - Open Secrets. I only know what I read back then - that it is an unreleased Edge Of Darkness tune. I never got a reply from the emails I sent Bukem a few years ago asking about it so I've never been able to get this confirmed. Id be shocked if this tune got released. Quote
Bhima Posted May 25, 2006 Author Report Posted May 25, 2006 I'd be shocked if this tune got released too! Nobody knows what it is! I doubt it's a Bukem tune because the beats just aren't his style... They;re a bit more loose and crazy while his stuff is usually tight and simple... it sounds like it could be a source direct thing, as he plays "Release the bells " a few tunes later and the production standards are identical... ...or if you've heard Brothers with soul [a group bukem was in] - "Music is so special", it does sound remarcably similar to that... Could be Bukem... Who knows though... Anyway, here's the clip... I finally found the CD that i'd burned the set to. http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/4478...ed_By_Bukem.mp3 (7MB+) I'll get to Bukem on AIM over the weekend... He's usually very interactive on there. I'm sure he'll be up for helping out with this one. Quote

That's true of most of his released stuff, although he was working with the likes of Hyper On Experience and Paul Chambers (Chalke, Forces Of Nature etc.) around this time so the production style did have some variety. He definitely didn't make the Magic In You / Dark Secrets track. If you catch him on AIM there's some more tunes he played back then that no one has been able to ID and are almost definitely unreleased. Maybe he could have a listen to them as well? Quote

Bhima Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 No reply yet. I'm determined to find this!!! Listening to the speech samples, I just searched ebay and other vinyl sites for audio clips of the following: 1) Jay Rolla - Open Mind2) Paul Z - Open Mind/Piano Magic3) Spinback & DJ Gwange - Open Mind4) Rotating Heads - Dark Secrets5) Rotating Heads - Dark Secrets (Wishdokta Mash Up Mix)6) Tunnel Vision - Dark Secrets7) Nookie - The Magic8) Wild Orkid - The Magic In You Found audio for 2 and 3 which are different tunes and it's definately not 8. Can anyone confirm that it's NOT any of the others? Could be one of those as some of them seem to be relatively unknown releases. :help: Quote

Bhima Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Number 1 was released in 1997... Seems a bit far fetched... Number 7 was from 1996... Could be.... Sounds a little like Nookie but if it was on an album, I doubt it would be it as it would be quite well known (probably)...?   Quote

Bhima Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Posted June 14, 2006 Bukem on AIM: (7:03:26 AM): easy... Been trying to ID this tune you used to play back in 94'... Has a "Magic in you" vocal also used by Wild Orkid on a lucky spin record from back then... Also has the words "If you keep an open mind, you'll discover dark secrets".... Been trying to send a clip over but AIM isn't having it for some reason... I'll be suprised if it's released as nobody knows what it is! Any info?(10:26:56 AM): a lot of tunes like this, no idea(10:27:42 AM): alot of people ask me about tunes, bit busy to sit and answer the many requests(10:27:50 AM): hope you track it down      Does this put Bukem out of the picture as the artist then? If he can't remember it, I doubt it was him as he could remember aaaaaaaall about "Atmospheric Jubilancy" when I asked him about that. I guess we'll never know. Quote
