I used to not care that old school hardcore/jungle techno/hardcore/breakcore got lumped in the same category with all my drum and bass.

But lately since I've been getting more and more dubstep, when I list my collection I have less and less of an organized sense of what is my DRUM AND BASS collection

I realize that

a) a single release can be of more than one genre (downtempo on one side, dnb on the other, or a compilation with dubstep, grime, and dnb, etc)

b) the genre of a release may be up for debate (is this old school hardcore, or protojungle? etc)

c) there may be difficulty distinguishing what is a genre distinction as opposed to a subgenre distinction (i.e. if we classify what is techno, dnb, etc do we have to classify what is ragga, neurofunk, etc)

Is there any way of overcoming these difficulties and further listing the genre of releases? Does anyone else think it would be a good idea?

I hate to use the D- word here, but there is a website that rhymes with "WISCOGS" that also lists releases by genre, and it actually proves useful when users browse each other's collections by genre when making purchases...

This is something that's in the pipeline but not implemented yet. We hope to see big movement on this sort of thing in the next couple of releases of RDB :)
