Another from the old Place To Be website that's gained a bit of a legendary status over the years, this one was first heard from the Dom & Roland One In The Jungle show in 1997 & initially referred to as 'Optical: unknown #8' on that site. [link]

Since then it has gone on to assume the title 'Sci-Fi Step Tech' across the internet, this is down to the voice over given to it by MC Five-0 where he states:

"Yes and those last three tunes we had there - one's by the Optical, the Prototype records, and Dom & Roland Mothership Remix. Right now we're taking you into the Sci Fi Step Tech, do check it out on the Optical... easy now"

/ unknown #8

I'm speculating whether this could actualy be a Dom & Optical co-production as it does seem to use the same break / drum set as a few of his other productions - Concrete Shoes, Still VIP, Skylab - and indeed has also been heard playing it since.

Mention here should probably be made of the other Optical unknown heard in that set (unknown #6), although perhaps not quite as strong does still have those stylings & vibe I'm sure anyone into his work back then will apprieciate! http://www.rolldabeats.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

oh my days

all you need to find now is that Optical - Sci Fi Techstep (Unreleased) tune http://www.dogsonacid.com/images/smilies/slayer.gif

i think that was on the one in the jungle 97 mix aswell, fuck me is that a tune.... i'd buy about 1000 copies of that cd if this tune were on it

big up the roland

That's if Optical can remember Sci-Fi Step-Tech. Or even if it was called that. Dom & Roland's got a copy on CD he's played occasionally over the years. If you can get hold of his one in the jungle set from '97, that's the best place to hear it. It's like the current Instra-esque thing but in 97. I'm just a little obsessed.

Nice one...keep these coming.

The new version of the site, which I'm expecting will launch very soon, will have a much better listing for all unreleased tunes so I'll be making sure as many of these go into the db with sound clips for the relaunch
