One of the grandfathers of the Drum and Bass scene. DJ Hype started out as Doctor K in the 80s as a scratch DJ competing, and winning, heats in the UK DMC championships. He went about then bringing his hip hop/scratch DJ skills to breakbeat hardcore when the music first started evolving from, what was then, house music. The legendary Hype pirate radio shows show why he has consistently been at the top of the game. From acid house to breakbeat hardcore to darkside to jungle to jump up to drum and bass Hype has played them all well known for covering a wide style of music in his DJ sets.

Although his production output of late has been slower he has been responsible for many classic tunes over the years. From the early nineties producing hits such as "The Bee" and "The Exorcist" alongside The Scientist moving on through his days with Essex based Suburban Base knocking out some huge hardcore and jungle tunes. 1994 saw the launch of his own label, Ganja, for which he provided the majority of the early releases as well as giving new artists, such as the then relatively unknown, Zinc a much wider audience. 1996 saw Hype, Zinc and long-time friend and label-mate Pascal launch their True Playaz project which to this day continues to be a huge success.
