  1. Some of you may have seen that any registered user can now add images to artists, labels and releases.

Me and the mods are going through and adding them when we get a chance and we're slowly managing to increase the number of images on the site and getting lots of labels ticked off. There are several sites that are working as a good source for pics but there may be others that we can use so thought I'd start a thread.

Please be aware that images of artists may often not be copyright free so use caution when uploading. Label logos and release artwork are less restricted on this front, or at least don't present such a problem.

In terms of what we're after ideally we'd like larger images. The largest size that RDB allows is 700 x 700 pixels so as near to that as possible would be excellent.

A few from me to start

    Juno

    http://www.juno.co.uk/

    http://www.junodownload.com/

Both have good sized images, although the juno.co.uk ones are sometimes not the best quality. The download site offers better quality as they come from digital artwork. A good tip when looking at back catalogue stuff on the main site is to search the artist or label name in quotes e.g. "v recordings" and turn on the view out of stock items option.

To get the image URLs simply copy the link URL on the thumbnail image on the release page

    Toolbox Records

    http://www.toolboxrecords.com/

Lots of images and at good quality. Again, open the image in a new window or simply copy the link URL on the thumbnail image.

    Facebook

Seems a no-brainer, really, but lots of artists and labels put good quality versions of their artwork and press shots on their fan pages.

    Soundcloud

The image are generally smaller but, like facebook, the profile pictures for artists and labels are often good logos or press shots

    Anyone got any more?

  2.

Yes, ok 'Play' doesn't work from the search results screen.

Oops. Forgot to include the player code on that page. It's there now!

Also, its a bit annoying becasue the play controls only show properly when the window is maximised. Using the scroll bars at the bottom doesn't do anything

Ah, do you mean when the window is thinner than the content? I see your point. I'll get this working better

  3. There's loads of good music to check out. I still love lots of old bits and pieces and all the classics that I've known for ages but, despite what some people might say, there are still some very talented people making tunes in all genres.

If you're into "future garage" which is basically just garage with a wanky name then I'd recommend these guys called C.R.S.T. who have made loads of things I liked

I could recommend more if you wanted.

  4. Sounds like a good story. Would love to hear more about it... Was it more a technical chore or a more "personal" thing on the producer side?!

We were focusing on early to mid-90s stuff and had a few tunes from Dextrous on board and several others we were talking to. Many of the tunes we were after (we were picking our favs from the unreleased forum) had been lost, had issues relating to copyright/ownership or people were just not particularly up for bringing out. Added to that there was no massive financial incentive so you can understand why lots of the producers weren't overly fussed by it and didn't really have the time to devote to it.

Anyway, the plan was to have a series of limited vinyl releases and then a CD to follow later on. We had distribution deals lined up and nearly had the first 12" sorted but the lack of future stuff meant that we couldn't commit to it all.

Shame, really, would have been a nice little project. We may well pick up on it at some point but it was quite a lot of effort to get it all sorted and the site alone takes up enough of our time anyway!

  5. Foals are great, I picked up their first album but only listened to the second a couple of times. I see they've had a third one, should probably give that a spin too!

A band that I absolutely love who play nice, melodic tunes but also have a little more to their sound than most are Field Music. I guess they're not for everyone but I'm a huge fan. Tones of Town was their best album, in my opinion but all of them are good. The last three were all excellent and the're well worth seeing live too. Very talented lads

  6. Funny you say that about the unreleased jungle...I'm right on that tip @ the moment. I'm thinking about starting a label and releasing unreleased 90's stuff along with my own material.

We were gonna do this through RDB for a little while. Had a first release nearly lined up but, sadly, couldn't get everything finalised. Good luck if you're trying to get stuff off other producers to put out, we found it quite a chore! ;)

  7. This is odd. I can't replicate the issue locally. I think we're experiencing some issues with the server, it seems to be taking quite a hammering and the moment and not dealing with it very well.

Sorry for all of this, I'm looking into it and will try and get it fixed asap
