  1. Has to be Shy but it's not a tune I've heard before. It sounds very similar to a couple of his other tracks from the time so could have been an early version of something that then turned into one of the tracks that came out?
  2. Right, taken me a long time to reply to this!

Cheers for all the recommendations, people. I'm loving loads of these. I checked the Join The Dots label and they have some cool stuff on there, nice to hear of some smaller labels doing some good stuff. Been loving loads of the Bicep stuff coming out recently and also have some Flori bits on Secretsundaze that I really liked, the rest of that lot are definitely my kinda thing. So much new stuff to check out now, it's impossible to find the time for all of it.

Logic's post reminds me that I really need to listen to more of this Action Bronson guy, I've seen his name all over the place recently and the tunes Log sent me of his were wicked. Shame to have missed the guy doing a live show in London in December. Oh well, next time!

I've been loving these bits in the past few weeks

    Kolsch - Der Alte

So simple (and a bit cheesy) but works really well.

Justin Martin - Don't Go (Dusky Remix)

The Danny Daze mix off the same release is also nice

This one came out earlier in the year but was one of my favs from 2012

    Kyodai - Breaking

  3. I've heard Mastodon before, liked that for sure. Not heard of Kylesa but will check 'em out. Nice one on the other names too, I've heard a couple of those guys and they were right up my street so will check the others.

We're working on the updates/subscribe issue. Not sure what's going on with all the email notifications but something's up. This forum seems to have broken a load of things that were working just fine since we moved servers/upgraded it but we're trying to fix the issues. Annoying, I know, so can only apologise and say that we're looking into it!

  4. Unleashed, Dismember, Entombed...this is all good stuff. It looks like you're into pretty identical stuff to me. There are a few names in there I don't recognise, will have to go check 'em out.

Do you listen to much new metal stuff? If so, any recommendations?

Klute's band was called The Stupids - http://thestupids.org/. I think it's very likely that lots of d&b guys are into metal as well. Surely all those Current Value/Dylan/Tech Itch style guys producers have to be into that sort of thing? It's very similar in style/noise

  5. Yo, I'm a HUGE metal fan too. Always been into Death/Grindcore kinda stuff. Carcass are the best band to have ever existed. What sort of stuff are you into?

Something seems to be up with emails, no idea why people aren't getting them. I'll investigate now I'm back from Christmas

  6. Yeah, we've been having some weird problems with the forum since going live. The biggest issue is, like you've pointed out, it's sometimes not possible to edit old threads. It's on the list of things to fix, but I'll have to admit that this is a fairly long list and at the moment we are insanely busy with work so the RDB tasks are taking longer than I had hoped to tick off.

Please let us know of anything else you spot that's wrong and we'll try and get it fixed as soon as we can :)

  7. I think lots of us on here are interested in the old skool side of this site but surely you are all listening to some new music?

Me, I stopped listening to D&B over 10 years ago and although I still buy old skool it's mainly house music that I pick up now when I'm buying dance stuff. OK, granted, some of my favourites sound like old skool, but there's so much interesting stuff out there in the house/bass genres at the moment. I'm sure many of you have heard it as it was one of the bigger tunes of last year but this is the sort of thing I love

Alongside that I've always been hugely into indie, rock & metal music. There's also plenty of that about that is top

    Wild Nothing – Nocturne

    Beach House – Bloom

What are you all into? Anyone got any recommendations?

  8. Yeah, the spam thing is a shame. It's mainly because this site is so well known in the D&B community so it's an obvious place to come if you're trying to promote your wares. You're right, though, there are lots of people who are into older stuff so all the new releases may well not be of interest to some.

I've added an introductions thread in the chat forum, hopefully people actually take part!

There's definitely a good ratio of good people on here. We're lucky that we don't tend to get many idiots posting up rubbish so it is a bit of shame that perhaps things aren't as lively as they could be

  9. Re-Touch had a good idea that we should introduce ourselves in here. I know for many of us this is now rather late in the day as lots of us have met several times but why not? It would be good to know a little about our newest members.

Say hello below after you've signed up. I might as well get the ball rolling.

I'm Tom and I have the dubious pleasure of running this site. It takes up far too much of my time but it's still fun (sort of, ha!). I'm into all types of music, some good, some really, really bad and I love records. I DJ every now & then and have plenty of mixes online of old skool in all its various forms and some cheesy crap too.

I make websites for a living and have a few other sites and projects around the web that some of you might enjoy.

If you ever have any questions about this place then please give me a shout!

Now over to you lovely lot...

  10. I have a few files on my computer too

I think he said that he's gonna have a site with all his old shows on at some point, didn't he?

    I have these ones anyway...

  11. That's a lot of questions!

I'm not the most technically minded person around here but can probably help out a little. For mixing then if you want to go down the traditional route of using CDs/decks then, yeah, you'll need some of them and then either a load of blank CDs or some kind of controller & software. I run Serato on a pretty old (4 or so years) PC and it runs absolutely perfectly on the whole and is great. I know there are plenty of other options here but I don't know much about any of them.

In terms of production I wouldn't splash any cash just yet. It's something that will take a while to get into. When I learnt all of this stuff it was on outboard equipment so your only real decision was which sampler you wanted to use and which mixing desk you were gonna get. Now there are loads of different software options with different pros and cons. I'd advise to start small, get something to learn the very basics on. I've heard people say that Ableton is pretty good for this sort of thing and, although I've never used it, Fruity Loops (or FL studio, I think it's now called) is something that lots of people starting out seem to have used in the past. Reason is also an option, again there are so many options here that it's just down to trying a few out and seeing which you get/like the most. Bear in mind that there is a lot to learn here so you'll need a fair bit of time to get the hang of producing music well.

Maybe the best place to start would be to pick up a decent laptop and try out a few different controllers to see which you like best for mixing and then do the same with some bits of production software?

  12. Hey, it would definitely be good to get a bit more chat going on here. I think the main issue is that we used to use the forum just for site updates and perhaps introduced the more social stuff a bit late to spark everyone's interests.

We get quite a lot of people trying to advertise their releases already and, on the whole, we delete these threads if they're just there to spam the forum and not a request to add it to the database. I'm very keen to keep the spam stuff to a minimum as I don't really think it's of that much interest to anyone. If you personally have made something I don't see why you couldn't start a thread to get people's opinions on your tunes, but just a link to Juno or something is just blatant spam, really.

The eBay/Discogs thing is similar, I guess. I think we'll just find people linking us to stuff they're selling on other sites, which will just descend into spam too. Both of those sites offer ways to monitor what's being added without needing people to link here so I'm not hugely keen on having that in place unless people really want it.

The introductions idea is a good one. Maybe we don't need a separate forum for it but I can (or feel free to do this yourself and I'll pin it) start a thread and put a little info in there to get things going. How does that sound?

In terms of getting people chatting more, there's a very easy way that you (or anyone else) can help out...start a few threads! I don't get time to really get involved in much more than taking care of the tech/content side of the site so I'll be little help here, I'm afraid.
