realhymie
I was wondering if some people here could help me out with some dnb culture insider knowledge? From about 1996 to 2001 I've been somewhat immersed myself, but then I got married and had kids and lost track of the whole thing a little. The fact that the music seemed to slowly lose its jungle/amateur vibe and move more into repetitive techno territory wasn't helping. I'm still listening to my collection of old stuff once in a while though. But I'm beginning to digress... What would you guys say were the biggest tracks of the last ten years? Also, if you could point me to any decent (not too crazy) ragga jungle tracks, that'd be a plus. BigUp!(the real) hymie
haste
You may well find that the situation is similar with many of us, I stopped paying as much attention at around the same time so won't be all that much help. For what it's worth here are a few that I like...my mind has gone totally blank on anything else in that time period Brookes Brothers - Tear You Down Sub Focus - Timewarp Spor - Aztec When you say ragga jungle you mean new or older stuff? realhymie
Thanks for the post! - I'll check those out in a minute. Was "Power of Ra" really big? I did enjoy it quite a bit on this Stevie Hyper Tribute ( ), but maybe that's just because of Shabba and Det (because the track itself is really an example of what I outlined above). What can I say? I'm a sucker for MCs.. As for ragga jungle - I think I'm pretty familiar with the old stuff, so I was wondering if there was anything good in the last ten years?Recently found this one from 2005 and enjoyed it immensly:
haste
Yeah, Ra was a big tune. Most of what Shy FX has done in the past years has been pretty big. It's worth checking the releases on Digital Soundboy for more ragga influenced stuff, although there's a lot of dubstep on there as well http://www.rolldabeats.com/label/digital_soundboy_recordings/tracks Give this one a go? http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/digital_soundboy_recordings/sboycd001/ This one from Potential Bad Boy was massive http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/ganja_records/rpglp001s2/ and much of his newer stuff is heavily ragga influenced http://www.rolldabeats.com/artist/potential_bad_boy/tracks/sort_by_year/desc Serial Killaz have been putting out a load of ragga jungle stuff that seems to be really popular http://www.rolldabeats.com/artist/serial_killaz
realhymie
Thanks again! I kinda like Spor - Aztec, the other ones are not so much my cup of tea.Not too sure about PBB - I'm not even too crazy about his old stuff (like 3rd Eye, etc.) I'll look more into the other stuff when I get home - currently at work... Right now I'm checking out MOS - Addicted to Bass 2010 Disc 2 .. so far "Sub Focus - Let the Story begin" and "Shy FX & Top Cat - Everyday" are not too bad..Then again, anything is Top Cat is instantly a winner with me... Wouldn't mind if stuff went a little more into that direction again.. bassline blows me away!
