Junglist00G Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Hi all, Recently I broke a pair of Technics SL-1210MK2 off of the Internet. I think the decks I brought are kinda worn out a bit due to the age of them. Me and my brother used to mix Drum & Bass Jungle many years ago, but stopped because we kinda lost interest in mixing. Anyway, we've both recently started up again and enjoying every minute of it, and is something we're definitely going to stick to doing. Apparently, Technics don't make Turntables anymore, and everybody's seems to be using CDJ'S or MP3's? I know that the Technics MK5G used to be the best Turntables out there, and are still are the best Turntables is lots of peoples eyes. Recently, I've been looking at the Stanton's ST150's and the Vestax PDX-3000. Could anyone give me any advice on either of these decks? Obviously, I'd like to have the best decks I could get my hands on. Are either of these decks better then the Techincs MK5G? Thanks for taking your time reading this, and any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Junglist00G Quote

neurotix Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Why cant you just get the decks fixed? Quote
Junglist00G Posted February 11, 2013 Author Report Posted February 11, 2013 Do you think by having the Technics SL-1210MK2 fixed, they would be a better deck then the new Stanton's ST150's or the Vestax PDX-3000? I thought that the Stanton's or Vestax would have a much better and stronger motor? Thanks for your reply Quote
neurotix Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Not sure why u need a 'stronger motor'? Technics were the industry standard, and basically unchanged for the best part of forty years.Direct Drive Technics fully serviced are fine.I havent played on that many new decks, just the citronics and the vestax and a pair of stantons. They are all much of a muchness. The point is they all FEEL slightly different, some are more over-responsive, some under-responsive, compared to Technics.Once you get used to the brand's particular nuances, then you should be alright. I know decent turntablists like Qbert etc have moved to Vestax, but it is horses for courses. Some turntables have more tweakable parameters, like reverse etc, or different brake settings, but every time I have used them I end up trying to set them up so that they behave as close to a Technic as possible!!!!!!If you are going to be DJing out in clubs, then 90% of the time they will still be Technics, so that could effect your decision. You could argue that since Technics have ceased, then spare parts and fixing will become more hassle in the future, and u obviously wont be getting a warranty, but then if u look after your technics properly then they shouldnt ever really break!!! Just dont drop anything on the tone arm, or spill drinks. Bulbs can go on the lights, pitch shifters can wear out eventually (but last time I got a new pitch, it was only 60quid including labour)Grounding clamps snap off and RCAs break but they are not unique to technics, just a little trip to maplins will sort that.I've had my 1200s since 1996 and have replaced just one pitch and two bulbs, thats it, they are practically indestructible. I once dropped one, face down, down a flight of stairs, not a scratch!!! Maybe I was lucky. If it were me, I'd stick with the technics, but thats me, and Im oldskool. I was surprised to see on gumtree in bristol there were loads of pairs for really cheap, I might even buy a second set for spairs etc, hold on to them and see if they go back up in price later on, i think there are enough Technic snobs out there that will eventually need another pair! Lots to think about. Quote
