so Kenny Ken hosted the shows Randall was scheduled for on 11th June and 18th June. LTJ Bukem would normally have been on 25th June and 2nd July, but he was on the Logical Progression tour of USA & Canada at that time. So JJ Frost filled in for Bukem on those dates and Randall then hosted the shows on 9th and 16th July

Not sure if can be assumed that Kenny Ken & Randall completely swapped sets across June & July... though I do note on it Kenny Ken says (@8:27):

"Right, those of you out there expecting to hear DJ Randall tonight, he's spreading the vibe across the globe... so you've got me - we've just swapped turns kind of thing. Got me this week and next week, and then the week after that you've got the DJ Randall..."

http://www.classifiedlistening.com/tarzanstuff/emoticons/eusa_think.gif ...the 25th June then??

You should probably add notes in the OP if you think that is the case for the 09/07/97 & 16/07/97 shows, that it's DJ Randall covering for Kenny Ken; also accordingly for the 25/06/97 & 02/07/97, and 23/07/97 & 30/07/97 shows that JJ Frost & LTJ Bukem crossed over also.

Kenny Ken - 11th June 1997 (Covering for Randall) : https://www.hardscore.com/?p=9370

you might wanna add some notes for this :)

adverts after "Chopper VIP", "Captain Nemo", "The Alarm", possibly "Physics" & "Mood Swing"

- that track at #6 sounds a bit different to "Reminiscence". It's seemingly using the same Cape Fear movie source for the vocal sample, but other than it's not that similar... he says about it:

"Forthcoming on Mix N Blen, track called Fear by the DJ Mace...", though he does mention right after that "think we'll have to go in the studio again and brighten this one up a bit, definitely"

The next show along then, must be the one when Kenny Ken plays Peshay "Phobia", as discussed ages back here.

I note its given in the tracklisting for the 19.02.97 show but my recollection is of it being broad daylight when hearing it - it seemed to pan across in one channel while simultaneously doing exactly the same thing to the other... insane! The mono clips that have been floating around of it do not do it justice :o

from my notes in 2003:

"Also - Kenny Ken shows from July…? I remember a firing Peshay tune which had some crazy ‘amen’ edits with phasing & distortion. It was quite similar to Decoder – Circuit Breaker (Peshay remix) but I am positive that it was ANOTHER tune…"

Also there was some sort of off-canter steppy number by Cool Hand Flex that got played which was quite cool, never quite got to the bottom of what that was.

I mentioned in this post a few years ago that the Grooverider set currently dated 22.08.1997 might be from the last hour of the 20.06.1997 show and he mentions on that set that JJ Frost is hosting the next Wednesday show:

http://rolldabeats.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48988&st=720#entry157692

Any chance that could be right based on the recording you've got from the 20.06.1997 Grooverider show? I've searched my tracklists and and all the tunes on the recording apart from the unknown German / Dutch tune were played on other sets in June 1997 or earlier. Grooverider's dubplate of the unknown German / Dutch tune had Noise & Paradox - Soundtrack For The 10th Planet (Esoteric Funk Mix) on the flip, which was played on your recording from the 20.06.1997 show. So all those tunes could have been played on a June 1997 show.

Right –

This caught my eye. Ornette is convinced that this is not the 22nd August show but actually the 18th July show.

So, it was me where Dombrowski originally got the date of 22.08.97 from,

though had mentioned I wasn't 100% sure and that "but I will find out when I start going through all my 97 bits and bobs and cross-referencing in the thread". Later, after listening to his recording, I realised this couldn't be correct, but the problem then was it seemed to throw my other dating out of whack. I never confirmed a revised date in the end.

I'm pretty certain the week before he played and said it was from Germany or something, there was no voiceover I caught for it this time round (22/8/97). Pretty certain its not any of the ones you have mentioned... http://subvertcentral.com/forum/images/smilies/xyxthumbs.gif

Interestingly this actually checks out. What we have fairly well established as 15.08.97 we indeed find the same tune being played, with the voiceover: "Seems like the boys overseas are getting a bit wild...! That's a piece that I got through the letterbox out of Holland... and I'm mighty impressed".

I remember hearing also that "Digital" Boymerang remix, and of it being an occasion from when I was not recording, so it definitely seems I was listening in that week. Later I would be disappointed that the original instrumental of "Digital" would not find its way on to the 2x12" release...

However, for the show in question, at the end Grooverider is heard stating "Right I'm gonna break out... 'til next week", which wouldn't line up with it being the 22nd, and also elsewhere about Frost being on that following wednesday, which in the normal rota of things would also not be correct.

I see JJ's updated with a provisional date of 18th July

It would however, line up with it being the 18th...

though it has since been established that Frost was not on that week, but two fortnights earlier. It could be argued that Grooverider made a mistake, and was not aware of the show swapping in the week, though since a recording for the 18.07.97 has been confirmed. Again in the first instance, it being the 18th seemed to raise 'some' issues for me... but what exactly I never got to the bottom of.

Ive just come across this tape. It appears to be a Metalheadz session broadcast live on Kiss Fm sometime in 1997.

This is starting to ring a bell actually. Is this the first half to the Grooverider section you posted? I seem to remember a show where it WAS live, and the second half in the studio... i think these two were it

This is not ringing a bell so much anymore, looking at it now. I think what I was being reminded of was this occasion on Radio 1, when I tuned in and it was live, and I tuned back again and it was Fabio & Grooverider.

Could this 18th July / 22nd August recording be another part of the show from 20th June 1997?

I mentioned in this post a few years ago that the Grooverider set currently dated 22.08.1997 might be from the last hour of the 20.06.1997 show and he mentions on that set that JJ Frost is hosting the next Wednesday show:

It really does seem, bizarrely, this is true. Save some strange situation where the 25.07.97 was misdated, and was actually the 22nd Aug, which doesn't seem to have panned out... It really does seem this is the second half of 20.06.97

There had been something troubling me about the first C60, there was a little fragment of Makai "Omen" somewhere out of sequence that I wasn't able to resolve. When I look at it now, it seems I must have went to record the track but hit the end of the tape, and so fast forwarded somewhere onto side A to catch more of it. This then, must have been what I went over when I went to catch the overflow of "Plastic Dreams" from the end of 27.06.97 as mentioned - leaving a tiny fragment of it from underneath.

Could this be a recording from Essential Music Festival at Brighton on 24th May 1997? Kiss FM were broadcasting sets and live acts from 11pm to 7am and Kemistry & Storm, Grooverider, Fabio, and Cleveland Watkiss are all on the flyer for the Legends Of The Dark Black arena at the festival.

JJ Frost - 17.01.1996

Some additions on this:

...

DJ Krust - Jazz Note II [V]

- adverts -

...

Lemon D - Change [V]

- adverts -

...

Ed Rush - Killamanjaro [Prototype]

- adverts -

...

st files ??? [clip]

...

That clip of the ST Files tune I made -

For some reason I never made a clip of this when I originally clipped/archived my tapes, not quite sure why. The one I done there is pretty awful, with little microskips & stuttering from the onboard soundcard I was using at the time. I'll try and do a new one when I can... who knows maybe I'll record the entire show this time.

Is your rip of it up anywhere?

Jumping Jack Frost - 23.10.1996

...

DJ Die - Play It For Me (Remix) [V]

 >> Gang Related - Rukus [Dope Dragon]

 >> DJ Krust - Destiny [unreleased]

 >> Dillinja - Acid Trak [Pain]

 >> Dillinja - Violent Killa (Dubplate Mix) [unreleased]

Peshay - Jazz Lick [Nexus]

...

Some additions/corrections on this. Date matches my details

Jumping Jack Frost - 23.10.1996

...

DJ Die - Play It For Me (Remix) [V]

[23:15]

???
sounds like Share The Fall full vocal mix?

Roni Size Reprazent - Sounds Fresh

Peshay - Jazz Lick

[32.16] [
]

Peshay - Jazz Lick [Nexus]

...

Original poster records over 9mins of the middle of side A with a section from the end of the show. Of that segment, I am missing 3:25 of it. At the very start of my recording, there's a tiny snippet of something that I rewound back over - this could be from the dotted section above, or from that 3:25 gap

Updated tracklist - on the first side of that rip after the Play It For Me remix it jumps to the last 17 or so minutes of the show (Rukus to Violent Killa (Dubplate Mix)).**

...

DJ Die - Play It For Me (DJ Die remix) [V]

?? (Krust)

Roni Size / Reprazent - Sounds Fresh [Talkin' Loud]

Peshay - Jazz Lick [Nexus]

...

Original post was never updated, so it looks.

So going by your update the "tiny snippet" I mentioned, was from that missing section, and not from earlier in the show after all.

Did you get a clip for that Krust tune - the last time I looked you linked one of Dubplates-vinyls clips?

That was this wasn't it?

"810 - Roni and die - Music House Dubplate"

https://soundcloud.c...die-music-house

Definitely from the same mould as "Share The Fall" to my ears, which is credited to all three on the New Forms album (+ Onallee)... unlikely to be a solo Krust production I'd have thought.

Fabio & Grooverider - Xmas Special - 27.12.1996

Marcus_Barnes has posted the Fabio & Grooverider Christmas and New Years shows on soundcloud and has dated the first show 27th December 1996. They start talking about what they had for Christmas dinner at one point, so it looks like the date on your tape is definitely correct. There are a couple of additional tunes on this rip as well.

http://soundcloud.co...rider-christmas

...

Dom & Roland - Time [Moving Shadow ASHADOW16CD]

Gave this one another tidy the other week, adding the recording I see you have here -

Is "Time" definitely at the end of this? I didn't hear it on the recording you have

Twice in the same show? Is this right?

Yes. Roni Size & Krust were in the studio for the last hour of the show and if I remember it correctly they selected some of the tunes played.

Yeah, that's the Dubplate-vinyls clip previously linked. It was credited to Krust on other Frost and Bryan Gee shows back in 1996 - has anyone heard Bryan Gee play it one of his shows over the last 10 years or so as he sometimes provides more details about unreleased tunes?

There's a clip from the JJ Frost 16.10.1996 show here:

It's not on mine, but about 20 seconds of Time is on the recording uploaded by Marcus_Barnes. It's the last tune of the show as Grooverider says "we're gonna leave you with this".

Fabio - 24.01.1997 (*changed from previously shown date of 28.02.1997*)

Possibly update this and the listing in the index to say it's Fabio featuring Grooverider?

>> Fabio (with Grooverider) - 24/01/97 Tracklisting

as per Dombrowski's comments,

On side A. after the PIM track - strange love, Fabio say's the following:

'well as I was saying before I forgot alot of records at home, and I don't even really want to say this but, I don't even think it was meant to be my show today so umm... in the studio tonight we have the Grooverider, who's come and saved my life really, cos i've got a bag of new tunes at home.'

'He's coming in, put it that way he's coming in.'

'So as per usual with me and the Rider were doing 5 - 5, were going to roll it out for you, so that is a bit of treat in itself, me and the Grooverider back to back.'

As I have said in my previous post, On my Fabio tape dated 28.02.97, Fabio is hosting the show but say's he doesn't think it is supposed to be his show and he and Grooverider are going back to back and Grooverider can be heard in the background.

Also, this note could be helpful to add:

Listened to this show recently and Fabio says "it's not all about putting one stupid sax solo in and calling it jazz jungle". Reckon that this Fabio show is probably from 24th January 1997 and not 28th February 1997 ...

Gave this one a tidy, noting JJ's previous update, and post, here.

Also this voiceover, that corresponds to the previous one mentioned from Fabio!

I noted on The Sun he mentions "and to reflect on what Fabio was saying last week, if you're gonna make a jazz tune, that's the way to do it" - is there anything said like that on here?

I have some written details for this show

Grooverider - 04.04.1997

Apparently this was a The Prototype Years showcase, where he had all the artists of the album in, introducing each tune and speaking a little bit about what they were doing. I was listening, but not recording as was a lot of talk and not much new music

I also have a note here that says the CD only track "City Lights" was intended to be later released as a single - I believe this info came from that show

...

Edited by jj, 19 January 2017 - 10:30 PM.

Tracklist added

Tidied and updated finally, sorry for not doing so earlier....

with your link also https://soundcloud.c...-4th-april-1997

When he plays City Lights he only mentions that it will be featured on the CD .

Ha, wishful thinking I guess... Possibly a 'rumour' I'd heard at the time?

I'm reminded of that record shop on Surrey Street in Croydon there around that time, a little way up from where Big Apple was on the same road - I can never remember the name. I bought the Prototype Years album there

They also had a Enforcers 5 picture disc literally nailed to the wall, omg

Updated, also slight tidy. My clip is from the 28.11.1997 show
