well as a few of you predicted the hardest part was to draw a border between hardcore and jungle/drum 'n bass. I have tried to use a combination of release dates and listening to the music when available. Sometimes it's quite hard indeed but I think I got a pretty decent guess on avarage but please do tell me if you think otherwise for every specific case!!!! After listening to youtube tracks all day it's sometimes not very easy to stay 100% consistent. :biggrin:

no, I tried to exclude happy hardcore but I have probably mistaken a few happy hardcore labels for jungle labels. I just listened again to a few kniteforce tunes and I guess I could have rated these as jungle so please correct me wherever I did that.

I'd like to include any labels that made a reasonably firm transition to jungle though.

Beats 24-7 yes? --> happy hardcore, so depends on what boundaries you use...

Big Orange no? --> seeing there's only 1 release listed I'd scrap this one...

Biotic no --> yes

Bizarre no? --> as with a bunch of others, where do you draw the line. Looking at the years it's a hardcore label (so pre-jungle).

Brain Progression yes? --> yes

Brain Records no? --> yes, though the early stuff is hardcore I think...

Breakthrough yes? --> yes (though I think it borders on happy...)

 

Are you sure Big Orange only has one release?

There's more labels in the list that don't have (full) information on 5 or more records, for example: International Breakbeat Inc and Sound Clash.

I'm not saying they only have 1 release, but nothing else can be found on the internet. Catalogue numbers return results for different labels (could be several integrated labels like Production House did), but if you're skipping labels with less than 5 releases, also skip those with less than 5 known releases. Could be the other 4 are not released or a different style of music. The fact it's release 5... who knows... On The Five records (club, not DnB) only has releases with catalogue number 6450 (like OTF6450, REM6450, JM6450 which I noticed since I've got OTF6450 and the remix REM6450).

 

THere's also a difference between track without full info (white labels for example of which hardly any info is known) or entries which either haven't been submitted or may not even exist!

I see, damn! I must say I haven't seen a lot of those, I might just leave them be because trying to find them all would require me to skip through 800 labels or so.

 

Indeed: at the first count there's about 800 dnb labels with 5 or more releases in the database, out of 4500..

I just did a few labels with question marks. That's how I found that one. Most is from active memory (always dangerous :tongue:)
