JNP
I'm looking for recommendations of mixes that came out between '95 and '99. I have all of the 1ITJ mixes available online, the Bukem, Photek and Grooverider Essential Mixes, and the Promised Land CDs. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Downloads or CDS, I don't mind. I like everything from atmospheric to techstep. Thanks in advance (and if there's already a topic on this, feel free to haze me, but please point me in the right direction!). haste
Have you got this one? http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/fantazia/fadj002cd/ It's 94 but is very good in terms of early atmospheric stuff
JNP
Thanks, Haste, I'll check it out. Tracklisting looks good!
Ornette
The Artcore cd's arn't too bad, iirc. I remember listening to the Kemistry & Storm one in a car on the way back from somewhere. Good journey. http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/react_records/reactcd112x/
haste
In all honesty you're probably better checking out mixes from DJs on the web rather than commercial releases. The ones you've mentioned are all pretty good but most compilations from that time featured the same tunes again and again. Not saying they were bad tunes but there's only so many times you can hear It's A Jazz Thing before it becomes a little boring. For a seriously good selection of 95 - 99 atmospheric tunes you should look no further than RDB's own DJ Extreme and his Smooth Grooves mixes - http://www.hardscore.com/?cat=245 - all of them are great. I did one that you might like many years ago that starts out all dreaming and then gets a bit more heavy towards the end - http://mrhaste.com/2003/03/haste-2-hours-of-lush-db-and-blue-note-breaks/
pearsall
you should definitely check out Haste's mixes - really good stuff! I'd also recommend Chrissy Murderbot's jungle mixes from his My Year Of Mixtapes project: http://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010/05/week-51-gangsta-jungle.htmlhttp://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2009/11/week-26-classic-ragga-jungle.htmlhttp://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2009/09/week-16-hardstep.html finally, shameless plug time, but I figure I've done a bunch of mixes that should be right up your street Street Dreams (94/95 jungle): http://sonicrampage.org/blog/?p=744 That Dream Is Over (atmospheric/ambient jungle): http://sonicrampage.org/blog/?p=601 Cold World (classic techstep): http://sonicrampage.org/blog/?p=1095 Over The Horizon (Bukem-style deep stuff): http://sonicrampage.org/blog/?p=44 Urban Takedown (jump-up): http://sonicrampage.org/blog/?p=1205
