Ornette Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 (edited) In May 1997 (to be precise, 16.05.1997), Grooverider opened the first of his Kiss 100 fortnight shows (actually covering for Fabio on that instance) with this absolutely awesome remix of a (hithero unknown-to-me) Rollins Band track. With a long drawn out intro with this looped guitar riff, and the vocals being said across the track like a poem (due to difference in tempos between the original and, obviously, the typical 170bpm of a drum & bass track), the track set my ears alight similar to the line of the song: "...if I saw your body burning in the street, yeah I'd put you out! With gasoline..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J5NDqlzyhc EDIT: A clip for this track has now been found! Many thanks to arne90 for finding the audio (Sept 2013). Trimmed youtube clip above later uploaded by al numptyRollins Band - The End Of Something (Grooverider Remix).mp3http://www.classifiedlistening.com/tarzanstuff/Rollins%20Band%20-%20The%20End%20Of%20Something%20(Grooverider%20Remix).mp3 Wow. But wait - there's more.... The second half of the track just cranks it up to the max. Steamrolling over any prior preconceptions it breaks out to this fat analogue-synth style growling bass lead over the most rolling of two-step drum'n'bass floorquaker rhythm sections with lots of hardcore stabs coming in to the mix.Hrrrmph! So, similar in structure to his (so-so) remix of Moby's "Mr. Bond" and with the hardcore 'stabs' in vein of his (top-notch) VIP mix of his own "Rainbows Of Colours", this tune really deserved NOT to be buried in the foggy mists of my memory but a full release and a place in the halls of d'n'b-dancefloordestroying-fame. Additional clip added by JJ, from the 16th May Kiss FM show as mentioned above -https://soundcloud.c...unreleased-clip Edited May 4, 2021 by Ornette Quote
Ornette Posted May 16, 2005 Author Report Posted May 16, 2005 Now here's the thing. On the promo posters for the release of the single, reference WAS made to the Grooverider remix, and even on the CD itself it lists the Grooverider remix as one of the track titles. But it was not there!!!!!! It was a dual-CD single release, with the remix supposedly the 2nd track on the 2nd CD (from http://www.btinternet.com/~moremusic/text/rocknew.txt): Rollins Band - The end of something 1997 release, CD1 of 2 part set LP version, We change fear remix, plus 'Threshold' - prev. unreleased in UKDreamworks DRMCD-22271 6 00442 22712 ?8 Rock Rollins Band - The end of something 1997 release, CD2 of 2 part set LP version, Grooverider remix, plus 'Stray' - prev. unreleased in UK Dreamworks DRMXD-22271 6 00442 22710 ?4 Rock (also check - http://www.musicstack.com/my/item.cgi?item=... Ornette Posted May 16, 2005 Author Report Posted May 16, 2005 P.S. Unfortunately for you guys I didn't tape it and even the next week he opened his show with it and I still didn't tape it, but if ANYONE was taping the Fabio & Grooverider shows on Kiss FM during 1997, I have the exact dates of the two shows he played it on, so please get in touch. Phokus Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 I wonder if this is another Grooverider remix that was on the promos but not on the full release, as with many Grooverider remixes  God knows why, his best work seems to be through remixes. Quote
noisemonkey Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 ah man, the original track was wicked. Groove was always on point with the remixes so no doubt this was another killer Quote

Kid-b Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 It may be this mate? http://www.discogs.c...release/2295665Disk 2 track 9I can't tell for sure as i can't get a copy . Quote
Ornette Posted January 27, 2014 Author Report Posted January 27, 2014 No, as far as I know and I spoke with a Rollins expert around that time its the same version that appears on the CD single i.e. slightly different mixdown of the original. He had not been aware of the whole issue before I mentioned either. Quote
Ornette Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 There's some alternate audio for this track that looks like its been floating around for a while, but noone noticed it! Its from the Helter Skelter 'Strings Of Life' event, 7th June 1997 Unfortunately there's not really any more of the second half to listen to, infact Grooverider mixes it in & out again rather quickly... Another thing is he appears to play a 'dub' version of it, without any of the vocals. Anyhow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-LIJnCwO5Y&t=11m32s With thanks to Deejay Endo, for the info Quote
Brendon Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Didnt anyone ever find anymore info on this? I remember hearing it being played on Kiss when it was being networked around the country.... Sunday night 6-8pm in Yorkshire Got to agree with you Ornette.... amazing track Quote
Ornette Posted May 12, 2016 Author Report Posted May 12, 2016 When I spoke with that Rollins expert - around the time that 'Come In & Burn Sessions' came out (that Kid B linked), I'm pretty certain he told me Henry was on record as absolutely hating drum & bass - although seems like he may have rowed back from that position since I'm guessing the record company must have commissioned the remix before finding this out, and then quickly done a bit of a bodged cover-up job replacing it with the slightly different edit of the original that appears on the single and the album! What happened to the actual original masters though is anyone's guess... http://www.classifiedlistening.com/tarzanstuff/emoticons/unsure.gif Quote
jj Posted May 12, 2016 Report Posted May 12, 2016 I remember hearing it being played on Kiss when it was being networked around the country.... Sunday night 6-8pm in Yorkshire This is a clip of it from Grooverider's networked show on 16th May 1997: Quote
Brendon Posted May 13, 2016 Report Posted May 13, 2016 Yes that's right JJ The syndicated Kiss only lasted a few months before it turned into capital but I was a religious listener and tape recorder as it was the only for people in the North to listen to new beats Anyway I emailed Rollins's website the other night, only to get a nice reply stating if it's not available in the online shop it's not available! Ornette Posted May 4, 2021 Author Report Posted May 4, 2021 Updated main post again. In July 1997, Grooverider opened the first of his Kiss 100 fortnight shows with this absoultely awesome remix of a (hithero unknown-to-me) Rollins Band track. With a long drawn out intro with this looped guitar riff ... This turned out to be somewhat off, was in fact in May that he opened these shows (see here) - actually covering for Fabio on that instance. Also possibly played on the 23rd as per the second occasion I mentioned... and possibly the 30th, though we have no audio currently for that. Quote
