Ornette
Having mentioned about this one a few times, I thought it was time I finally added this as a unreleased track. I first heard this at the D.O.P.E. PA at the Lazerdrome back in August 1993. After dropping their just-released "When I Was Young Pt. 3", they went on to introduce this as their 'next single'. Thinking it was an absolutely wicked piece of darkside, I looked forward to this coming out on 12". In Feb 1994, I managed to catch a clip of this from DJ Trace & Ryme Tyme playing a set on Kool FM. This was the last time I would ever hear this track. Around June, the single GLR005 finally dropped and I bought this on sight. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered the tune I had been patiently waiting for was not there!! Big thanks to Steve J who put the clip of this across to Ben James, who indeed confirmed this as the unreleased "Travelling (Pt. 1)": Just to confirm what I think we already knew, yes, that is an unreleased mix of Travelling Pt 1 - dropped that clip of yours Ornette to Ben a few days ago. He's pretty sure it doesn't exist anymore on dat or disk - only a couple of dubs were done to roadtest before they stripped it down to the final version. http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/phpBB2/images/smiles/cry.gif Here is the clip I have:http://www.classifiedlistening.com/tarzanstuff/DOPE%20-%20Travelling%20Dubplate%20mix.mp3DOPE - Travelling Dubplate mix.mp3
Bhima
Oh my god! That mix is wicked! A Proper darkside hardcore badarse version! You sure this isn't released on the Rugged Vinyl 12"? I haven't heard that one and someone told me it was different...?
Ornette
Does it exist?
Bhima
Does it exist?Yeah, check these:http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rugged_vinyl/rugged13http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rugged_vinyl/rugged13x Apparently, that version of Travelling is different to the GLR one... Not sure if it's this mix though... Never heard it though, just heard from someone I know. Anyone got those 12s?
Ornette
Right its not RUGGED13, we've checked on this and the Travelling there seems to be a 'remix' of the Slow Train To Philly Mix. RUGGED13X - this one is rare as hen's teeth, and there was some consternation on whether it exists or not. It does exist, but its very hard to come by, but noone's heard it yet to see whats on it. When you said the Rugged 12" - I thought you were referring to this one http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/rugged_vinyl/rugged5 which is the one I question whether exists or not. Phokus
rugged13x - if it's etched with the logo, how does it have two sides? all the other etched rugged vinyl releases i've seen are single sided.
fused
rugged13x - if it's etched with the logo, how does it have two sides? all the other etched rugged vinyl releases i've seen are single sided. Rugged13x is just a w/l TP - two sides and two very uninspiring remixes - one of Burning and one of Travelling. I also keep forgetting to rip this, but I will get around to it one day - but you'll be dissapointed. That version as heard on Ornette's clip is the original proto Travelling, but was stripped bare for its final release - I can do some more digging with Ben James but I'm pretty sure he's filled me in with all there is to know... I'll ask Ben about this Ornette when I get a mo. Never seen it - is there any ref. to a RUGGED cat no. on the GLR release? Must look... Steve Just to let you know, spoke to Ben about this at the weekend - RUGGED5 does not exist - doesn't think it even made it to a TP before GLR wanted it. Can anyone help please? I'm not sure it was released either. Cant seem to find it anywhere. The clip is taken from a Mastervibe Dreamscape 14 1994 set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlP8yzwPiqkDOPE - Travelling Dubplate mix.mp3
fused
Easy Neurotix! (thanks for your PM - thought I'd reply here for the benefit of everyone) I can certainly bung that Youtube clip in front of Easy B (Ben James - one half of D.O.P.E./Rugged Vinyl head honcho) and see if he knows it - although I've found he can sometimes be a little uncertain even what stuff he's put out in the past, lol. I'll be honest, I've never heard that clip before, has some bits that mark it out as a possible D.O.P.E./Rugged production but tbh I'm not sure it's a mix of Travelling at all. That mix that Ornette/JJ refers to is basically an early proto of Travelling that Ben confirmed - put together in 1993 but they left it and when they picked it back up again sometime later, the progression of hardcore/jungle had moved on a bit in the meantime and so they stripped it back to a more laid back jungle/drum'n'bass/Bukem vybe (which as you know, eventually appeared on GLR). I hope they have the original DAT from that version as it's a wicked tune!! Shall we call it "Part 1" so if we talk about it it's all about "Part 1" I wish they have it around.. what a tune

I thought I had stumbled upon this when I managed to some old Rugged plates from Ben... but sadly it was the version that appeared on GLR (along with some Intense bits but either the same as what was released - or as good as given the little difference). neurotix
Ok, so i spoke to Wayne from D.O.P.E and he confirms that the string section is indeed from Travelling part 2, but they never made the tune i talk about, which means someone cheekily sampled it. So does anyone have a clue yet about who did this? Here is the clip again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlP8yzwPiqk
