haste Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 i was just listening to some old tapes and was thinking about all the tunes that never came out and were only on dub. do you reckon it would be worth including these tunes in the database somehow? i don't know how it would work but there are loads of VIP mixes of jungle tunes that could be put in with the original labels just to note that the tunes exist but never came out. if you're having sound clips then it would be easy enough to get clips of the tunes from mixtapes for ppl to listen to. i've certainly got a lot of sound clips and knowledge of tunes that could be put in Quote
Logic Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 I think it's a cool idea. Sooooo many tunes I want that never came out  I want Banana Boat Man really bad  Quote
komando Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 yah definitely help the trainspotting massive i say go for it, but at the same time theres so many releases we havnt catalogued yet how about we work on those before we start going nuts with dubplates Quote
thijs Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 i see your point, and since i would like this database to be as extended as possible i would surely like to fit them in somehow. problem is with the structure that is used right now it will be hard putting them in somewhere (although creating a label called 'dubplates' for this could be an idea). the only thing remaining then is keeping them a part, assuming dubplates rarely have (known) catalogue numbers... haste Posted May 18, 2003 Author Report Posted May 18, 2003 none of them would have catalogue numbers. i think the best idea is to create an "unreleased" label or a dubplate one, like you mentioned Quote
Logic Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 excellent idea, soundbites just for dubs given the unclassifiable nature of them, it would help ensure that they are id'ed correctly (preserved in one place also) and would make this site the ultimate trainspotter resource there's enough anal headz on board here that would help out i'm sure  I think most of us were thinking tunes that were produced a long time ago and never released, as opposed to brand-spanking-new tunes that are destined to be released but are only currently on dubplate. You can find clips of new dubplates all over the net; clips of truly unreleased tunes, however, are MUCH harder to find. I can think of about 5 tunes off the top of my head that were produced in '93 or '94 that have never seen their way even onto white label. Quote
haste Posted June 2, 2003 Author Report Posted June 2, 2003 Yeah i wasn't thinking of clips of new plates that are gonna be coming out. You can use DOA for that. This is more for things that will never see the light of day, whatever age they are. I can think of well over 50 tracks that could be included here and could probably get audio for most of them Quote
