Record Value Field?

This might be a rubbish idea and totally inappropriate, excuse me if it is.

 

I thought it might be an idea to give records a value, as in how much should be paid for them. Obviously a record is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, but I personally would like to know what value some of the users on here would put on tunes. This could prove valuable for people who perhaps don?t know the record market too well and may get ripped of by certain vendors, I now know I have been in the past.

 

It could go on a ?5 scale, like (imo) early hardware would be, on average, <?5 whereas early ram would be, on average, ?15>

 

Just an idea.

Record prices fluctuate massively and there is no set price for anything, that's why we cannot include information like this in the db

Yeah, I thought it'd be pretty much unworkable/pointless. I picked up this antique identification guide book which had typical prices for stuff in it and just wondered if such a thing could be applied to the db.

would there be any objection to posting a 'how much is this worth?' thread where such things could be informally discussed?

I dunno man, I don't want to clog up this place with endless posts asking us to tell people how much their records are worth. It means creating another forum and I don't really see the benefit in it. I think that a lot of people will ignore these posts as well, I don't want to spend my time contemplating how much a record is worth with someone.

 

There are plenty of other places on the net where you can ask this kinda stuff. DOA being a prime example. Also remember that you can search completed listings on ebay - that's gonna give you your answer straight away there

I'm personally very against any kind of public consortium for pricing. This scene is too small to have a stable economy, and what's worth ?80 to some yank with too much money may not be worth a fiver to a limey in South London.
