But there are that many artists in the rolldabeats database that I don't think it would be all that helpful . . . because if you have to sift through 500 artists names just for the letter A when you're loking for one particular artist, I think you'd get lost in the middle. Those are just my thoughts though.

indeed, do realise there are over 13.000 artists in the database at the moment.

I guess a simple text dump wouldn't do any harm, and certainly wouldn't be hard to code, but it does seem a bit strange

 

Thijs, what about the pages you set up for us to browse for duplicate artists a while back? Could those be modified for public display?

It would be very easy to program, not quite sure where we'd actually fit it in, though.

 

The main problem is that fact that there are so many artists in the database that it's gonna be tricky to make it easily viewable without looking messy

Thanks for all the feedback. I think it could fit in quite nicely. From the alphabet up top, and then if you select one, it could have 50 per page and pagination.

I don't see a reason why this should be needed and I guess you're the only one that actually wants this, could you explain why?

 

This is a database for searching and I don't see any use in browsing through thousands of artist names you never heard before.

I can see why people might want it...looking through a list would mean you could browse the site without having to know what you were looking for before you came here.

 

Might mean that some people just spend a while going through the site and checking out different things (this will be much more useful when sound clips are live).

 

I don't think there's a real problem in doing this but there are so many new options like that that we're putting in place I think we really need to think about how the navigation for the site works as it is going to get very cluttered!
