artist title seperator in new frontend

i noticed something on the release screen which changed in an unhappy way.

artist/title seperator is not in a vertical line which makes it tedious to check all tracknames on the first sight.

 

tracknames in old version had been readable very fast.

(of course this example is not as pretty as it looked before the relaunch)

it takes much longer to read only the tracknames even with the same artist for all tunes

maybe the old version wasn't that pretty but the information of the tracktitle was easier to consume (for me).

for me the usability is more important than the look pretty thingy

That page, perhaps, but I really don't prefer the old style of layout. My personal opinion is that it's still easy to read as it is now. I don't like having the space between artist and track name and find it simpler to read with them close together.

 

Interested to hear people's opinions on this but I'm unlikely to change this unless it's seen as a real issue by many users

its great to have that genre thingy and soundclip link for each track but its getting more and more ?challenging? to consume the information.

i am sure that seperating artist and title in one vertical line would make it easier!

i'll have to agree that the genres should be only displayed after the release date and not after every track title..

That is a good example of how it does look a little cluttered sometimes. Are we talking about a small number of releases that look this way now or is having the data presented like this actually making the other 90-95%(?) of release actually look better?

 

It's easy to find a small number that look worse now but, again in my opinion, I find the way things are presented now much, much easier to read for the vast majority of releases.

Yeah you are totaly right:

every release page of darkhorse (except dhr003) is easy to read because artist title seperator is in a vertical line for each track.

So applying it for all release pages of rdb would not affect those which already have it in an vertical line

Some pages do indeed look a little untidy at the moment. But that's just a few pages. And to be honest, the Grooverider album shouldn't have Optical listed like that -- it'll be much clearer to view once he's listed as engineer, rather than co-producer.

lol sorry about that :biggrin: didn't read the first post that well and i checked the higher ground link way too early! but anyways, i still think that genres should be listed in one place (especially if you want to copypaste the tracklisting, so you wouldn't have to erase those lines where genres are listed).

 

about hanswurst's vertical thing.. it has it's pros and cons. yes, it would be more easier and faster to get info about the track titles BUT didn't the previous version of rdb have smaller font size? so some titles could be too long for the width of the page, no?

 

 

+ i got one off topic question aswell: can one still get the tracklisting in plain text format? i remember that in the previous version of rdb you could click the record image and the details of a release came up as a simple txt friendly list..

the old aligned way is better, but as mentioned, only for those releases that have varying artist lengths

as for the genres, lots of releases have multiple genres so it's a great feature, if anything, there can be a javascript toggle button that tells div.extended_info to be display:none

Yeah, will add some javascript stuff for different viewing types for release pages in the near future. This will co-incide with the plain text view for release details at the same time

Or rather than toggling the extended info, you could just do a CSS jobby to toggle the alignment the way hanswurst was recommending

Sorry, that post was confusing. I'm not aiming to change the way the pages are aligned, I still prefer the new way.

 

I am intending to offer different views of the data in a similar way to view: releases | tracks on the label/artist pages that have

 

- basic info (formatted)

- extended info (formatted)

- basic info (plain text)

 

There may be more to add to that list in the future but those seem to be the best ones at the mo

I always say what I think of something so bare with it :-

 

But never the less I truelly have a problem with heavy load pages and the server bandwidth being used with stupid things but guess what? Its only my opinion :-
