stenny
Has the source to this break ever been found? It sounds a bit like the amen break but obviously isn't that. It's been bugging me for years since hearing it on an old 90's sample CD... CLIP Flytronix - Hindsight is one of many tracks that uses it. H_M_M
is it this at 0:20 but sliced up?
stenny
is it this at 0:20 but sliced up? Nope The one I'm looking for has heavier ride cymbals + a crash cymbal hit. This was the sample CD I originally heard the sample on, just wish I still had a copy so I could post up the full break unedited.
stenny
I managed to get a copy of that sample CD, so I've edited my original post to contain a new sound clip of the break in all it's glory.

stenny
Whats the name on the CD for this break sample, is there one listed? I haven't got the booklet with all the sample names listed, only a copy of the CD unfortunately. From what I can remember when I owned an original copy of it back in the 90's, the breaks did have names, though they were only descriptive ones rather than a clue to their original sources. I could be completely wrong but I think this break had 'splash' or 'splash cymbal' mentioned as its name. The 'Tommy Roe - Sweet Pea' break is on there too and I think that was listed as 'studio one' or 'one mic' or something like that. That's all I can remember. Ornette
The 'Tommy Roe - Sweet Pea' break is on there too and I think that was listed as 'studio one' or 'one mic' or something like that. That's interesting. I have a sample of that Tommy Roe break that was indeed labelled 'Studio'. Perhaps many of these alternate names for these breaks come from this CD. Have a look here http://web.archive.org/web/19980703171940/www.true-playaz.co.uk/ (click on 'green room' to get to the samples)
stenny
Nice link! I've heard people talk about those true playaz breaks downloads before. Yeah, it would make sense that some producers used the sample CD sample names for certain breaks, I know I used to do the same as well. Norman Cook's Skip To My Loops was another good early 90's sample CD with loads of breakbeats (it had quite a few good ones like Funk Inc - Kool Is Back, Soul Pride and others) and I'm sure the Sweet Pea break was also on there. garx
It's Fat Eddie by James Brown but everyone was using that version from Pascal Gabriel's Dance Samples which was processed and probably resliced to sound better
