Break name: P.S.K.

Artist: Schoolly D

Track name: P.S.K.

Original release: Adventures Of Schoolly D

Label: Jive (U.K. release???)

Cat number:

Year: 1986

Producer: Schooly D

Also available on:

Example:

SMF - vol. 3, side A, track 1 (Rugged Vinyl, 1992)

Glamour Gold - Feel (Rap Records, 1997)

Notes:

Not to be confused with the bogus Notorious BIG "B.I.G." cover version!

"P.S.K." happens to stand for "Park Side Killers" although the chorus would have you believe it stands for "People", "Scream & Shout" and "Kuttin'" (i.e. a DJ's cutting & scratching).

Although it can be heard in Glamour Gold's "Feel" it's probably only there as a remenant from the Case "Touch Me Tease Me" sample...

Yeah, the bit from "Feel" is definitely from the Case tune that sampled the Schooly D track. I'd leave it like this though as I'm sure this break has been used in other dnb tracks

It was used on:

Masters At Work - Just A L'il Dope.

Used to be played on 45rpm instead of 33, for the oldskool mixes back in '92!

Is that like: Adonis Posse - "Let The Warriors Dance" (1988)?

It is? I can't hear it in there.

not the beat as a whole, but the structure is the same. beat in SMBU is made from two different beats - Schooly D - PSK and Ultramagnetics MC's - Critical Beatdown. if you want i can show how to make this beat yourself later.

Liam Howlett also sampled P.S.K. for 2 live tracks - Rock'n'Roll and Lyrical Terrorist - and used that beat again for SMBU, but recreated it.

It might be the same sort of beat but I am not convinced that he sampled PSK, the hi hats are very distinctive, I just can't hear it in 'Smack My Bitch Up'. I am not doubting that he created a similar sort of beat with other drums... but that's not sampling, is it?

ok, he didn't sample it for SMBU, but sampled for two other live tracks))

by the way, that beat from PSK is sampled by Leftfield on his track Storm 3000
