Pirate Life
Hey everyone! I only just found this post while searchin the net (as you do) and i can say Maxstyle's post on the Manchester Pirate's is pritty good. My cuz is Snowy from Buzz fm in Manchester, although he goes by the name of Snowman now, has done since bout 2004. Buzz was still on air up until last year (Feb 2009) and Snow was still goin strong on the Friday night's. Infact i think it was his 10th or 11th year on the Friday show! I hear that Buzz is due back on soon aswel. He now runs a website online that is dedicated to ALL uk pirate stations. They have video's, downloads from up coming artist's, live stream, forums ect, and also live show's from ex and current pirate dj's at selected times. There is a post in the forums on there which has pics from Frontline and Soul Nation too, and a Manchester Pirate section with various station info. Im sure they are looking for more people to share thier experiences of thier pirate memories ect from alover the uk. Hope that helps a lil? Great post by the way, let's not forget what the pirate's have given to the uk music over the years! The site address is http://www.towerblockradio.com And the direct link to the Manchester Pirates Thread is: http://www.towerblockradio.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?

DeeJayBudd
Just seen this thread! Here's a quality station we always used to tune into most evenings. Obviously it's in need of more input, it's amazing how quickly you can forget!! name: Touchdown FMfreq: 94.1FMarea: London (??)known years running: 1991-1993basic style genre: Hardcore, House & Garageknown dj's: Kenny Ken, Tony J, Blue Dread, Steve Nut-Nut Monster One day I'll get round to ripping some of the tapes I recorded...
Miss Wicked
I dunno, today's pirate stations are nothing like they used to be! I can only pick 2 or 3 up where I am and not that well either, nevermind. Back in the day I used to listen to these: Touch FM: Based on the Isle of SheppeyCan't remember the frequency now, they transmitted for a few months from about Oct '93 until spring 1994 then went off air never to return for some reason. Main styles were hardcore/ drum & bass and jungle.DJs were: Paradise & Nugget (the twins) Cashin, Al, Bowler and Budboy. Oh and DJ Pooch. They were on air earlier in '93 as Pleasure FM playing hardcore. When Cashin was on the sets were always heavy on the scratch attack. Wicked FM 91.8FM Whitstable based station. This was a pukka station, only got the one tape of this staton recorded christmas day 1993. They transmitted throughout the day and about 90% of the tunes they played were dark as you like!Main styles were hardcore/ jungle/ drum & bass, and some garage.DJs were DJ Time, 386 amounst others. Cyndicut 100.4FM Essex Based, everyone knows this one. Got 2 tapes of this station from Jan '94 one of which got mostly taped over by accident. (gutted) Still need to post some clips of some of the tunes for ID off those tapes - the ones I still need on 12"DJs on the tapes are Daz (who apparently goes under another name now??) and Fusion Beat - what's he up to these days???DJ Daz did a live ad for Club Raw (Raw 4 '94) at the Red Lion, Crete Hall Rd, Gravesend starting 15th Jan '94 just before the start of his set on the tape. Wicked mike skills, the man. A couple of obscure London pirates that I can't find info on: Shockin'Transmission 1 Usually nearly all pirates have 'FM' at the end of their names, these 2 didn't. A couple of pretty wicked stations circa 1994-95 playing upfront Jungle only. Loads of live ragga chanting bo's, and MC rhyming done really well (not annoying),and played some wicked obscure tunes as well....... ....................... .......................... ...................... ....................... ........................HI I loved Wicked fm, I was 15 back then and wish I had more of the music, possibly one cassette remains! Can you list the DJs? Also my nephew was from Surrey and he gave me a tape of Redeye fm which was amazing....

djkryptonn
Supposedly Andy C had a graveyard shift on Cyndicut back in 1993 Yeah. Andy C used to play on Cyndicut during 93 with Red One on the mike. They referred to themselves as the Mindrise Crew. It wasn't graveyard shifts though - it was prime time Sunday evening sessions.
