Guest Proto J
apparently this only made it on a grooverider mix of prototype years or some shit... it's mad dark... dom played it for me from his laptop when we had him here last year... he said him and optical went and saw 'independence day' at the movie theater earlier that day, and wanted to make it sound as dark as when that huge u.f.o. is hanging over america in the film... hahaha... it sounded like that too... dom is the king of being cinematic imo... i think this was made around the same time they did "quadrant 6"... Ornette
Well, I spose that someone has to respond to say... err, no Technically this tune is not unreleased. Although it only features on the "The Prototype Years" album in mixed form on the mix CD, it did surface on the 5-track "The Prototype Years" promo CD in its full form!!! However to give you your dues this promo CD is mad rare so to all extents and purposes it is as good as unreleased. But I can confirm it exists cause I saw it with my own eyes back in 1997. I didn't think much of the tune then, probably cause I was really into the Lemon D's "City Lights" which also featured on the promo CD and so I didn't really give it much of a chance. Talking of which, how annoying was it that "City Lights" only came out on the CD and not the vinyl edition of the album!!!!! Arrgh! And those (technically not)unreleased Photek tunes! And countless other Grooverider-associated unreleased tunes!!!! P.S. Wish I had borrowed it when I had the chance - coulda had a copy of it on tape (CD burners in 1997? Are you mad???) Guest Mi-Jah
OK, i promised to post the correct details about the Sony promotion tape, so here they are: These are the details as mentioned on the tape: Various Artists "Prototype Years" MC II Side A 1. Ed Rush & Fierce - locust2. Lemon D. - going gets tuff3. Boymerang - still4. Codename John (feat. Grooverider) - warned! Side B 1. Codename John (feat. Grooverider) - smilin2. Dom & Roll (feat. Optical) - still (VIP mix)3. Lemon D. - untitled So the A side has nothing unreleased on it, although the 'warned' track is slightly faster than the version that was released AND strangely enough it is followed by an incomplete version of 'the warning' which was released on Metalheadz!!! The B side is the interesting one:As far as i know 'smilin' by Grooverider is an unreleased track (hope anyone can confirm that) and as we now all know so is the 'still VIP mix'.The untitled track by Lemon D. is 'city lights'. Cheers, Mi-Jah

That stop is rubbish... always funny to go through the records; everything you've heard of that is more than 5 years old is at least ?15! Yeah, it's the only Reckless left in London (Angel and Camden have closed). They usually have very high prices, but sometimes the seem to overlook some tunes. Also got the original Jo - R-Type in mint condition some months ago for 7 quid (when Angel still existed)! But usually I just wonder if they actually sell some of the records they've got...
