Converts anything to mp3 (and many other formats). it can convert YouTube vids to audio only mp3s in whatever bit rate you want as well as taking subclips from the vid.

In the future please fee free to make clips from the YouTube vids if you have time for the old sample sources, it would be hugley appreciated

In short, it's amazing!!!

Very nice!

On the subject, does anyone know of any good freeware for encoding to mp3 via line in? I had been using Soundforge but it keeps stopping working after I've encoded about 30 mp3s

if you have the paradox keygen for whatever copy of soundforge (by the sounds of it you have 7) it should have a keygen for the mp3 plugin. personally I would swear by soundforge as it is an amazing program if you use it properly (and have the right crack), failing that if you have a creative soundcard you useually get some programs with that can do this like creative recorder or wave editor

Not too sure we should talk piracy so here's my solution:

(1) Use the built-in Sound Recorder to save WAV files

Recording WAV is recording WAV - same quality no matter what program you're using.

Although do make sure record settings are PCM, 44,100khz, 16 bit, stereo for CD quality flat-format audio.

I've just had a look at Sound Recorder in Win2000, and it seems a little different to how I remember it. To configure those audio format settings mentioned you have to go File > Properties then choose Convert Now.

(Actually, looking at this it seems that you can actually choose to save to MPEG Layer III direct from here!)

(2) Use dedicated (freeware) program to encode to MP3

Ignoring my last observation, after having saved sound data in the format specified above, use www.dors.de/razorlame/ to encode to MP3. A front end program for the superior Lame MP3 encoding engine it really is the best way to do your MP3's. It is the epitome of the open source software ethic - its continual revisions and improvements have culminated in a codec that far surpasses the capabilities of even the Frauenhoffer codec (the MP3 inventors...)

The only problem is gettting hold of a compiled copy of Lame...

Oh and the encoding settings can be a little baffling. Once upon a time there used to be a VERY informative site about MP3 sound quality & LAME settings vcalled www.r3mix.net, but the owner seems to have abandoned ship a long time ago and now there is nothing but one of those dodgy search portals there... However the guys at www.hydrogenaudio.orghave continued to carry the flame and a number of different, 'optimised' LAME settings can be found there, each one depending on what purpose you want to use it for...

Yes, its maybe a little more complex than just using your basic all-in-one package but you are guaranted much better results!

sorry didn't want to talk piracy I was just sugesting a solution to theorie's problem and also I was meant to say that if anyone has creative soundcards there should be a cd of drivers and stuff that usually comes with it and there should be some programs that are free and simple to use on the disc too.

I must admit I forgot about lame as I don't have it and use sound forge but lame is a very good program to use if you just want to convert waves(or cd's) to mp3's and it is very fast compared to soundforge but I just use soundforge out of preference.
